Glen Ellyn is a small town in the suburbs of Chicago. A typical small town with its little pleasures. And one of these joys was the parade on July 4... Such a sweet, very homey holiday. Without any pathos and slogans with propaganda.
The population of Glen Ellyn was just under 16,000 in 1960.
A small town is defined by the US Census Bureau as having a population between 25,000 and 50,000 residents. It is slightly smaller than the average suburb, which is defined as a community within an urban area with between 30,000 and 70,000 residents.
It's not that small... also, being a suburb, it's surrounded by other suburbs.
