New Bike Seat Adjusted En Route by Handle Bar Lever, 1931

In 1931, using a new bicycle saddle which was displayed at the International Exhibition of Inventions in London, cyclists could raise or lower their seats while on the move. This change of altitude is achieved by simply operating a hand lever attached to the handle bars, as shown in the photo. The lever in turn operates a small pump which supplies compressed air to the cylinder formed by the bicycle frame.
