Titled an ‘Introduction of Swedish Gymnastics for Women’, these images were taken by German photographer Heinrich Hamann (1883 – 1975) between 1902 and 1910.
A keen gymnast himself, Hamann had just the right eyes to capture the athletes in action. Here, we see these women, in the “new gym clothes”, exercising in a sports hall and on the Heiligengeistfeld in St. Pauli quarter in Hamburg.
