Amazing Black and White Photographs Documented Scenes on the New York Subway in 1969

Here's a series of vintage NYC subway photos were taken by LIFE photographer Ralph Crane in 1969. These candid photographs documented scenes of Gotham’s subway system from the late 1960s; the army of men and women who, improbably, keep it up and running; and the intrepid souls who test their mettle – and their luck – in the tunnels beneath New York every day.
