20 Interesting Photographs of Chuck Berry Shows Off His Legendary Duck Walk During Performances

The duckwalk is an unusual form of locomotion performed by assuming a low partial squatting position and walking forwards, maintaining the low stance. It is similar to stalking and prowling. It is most widely known as a stage element of guitar showmanship popularized by rock 'n' roll star Chuck Berry.

While the origins of the duckwalk have been traced as far back as T-Bone Walker who already during the 1930s performed dance moves while playing his guitar, it was Chuck Berry who made the duckwalk popular and who is often credited as the inventor. He first used it as a child when he walked "stooping with full-bended knees, but with my back and head vertical" under a table to retrieve a ball and his family found it entertaining; he used it when "performing in New York for the first time and some journalist branded it the duck walk."

From the late 18th century, Alexandria became a major center of the international shipping industry and one of the most important trading centers in the world, both because it profited from the easy overland connection between the Mediterranean Sea and the Red Sea, and the lucrative trade in Egyptian cotton.

Alexandria is now the second largest city and a major economic centre in Egypt, extending about 32 km (20 mi) along the coast of the Mediterranean Sea in the north central part of the country. Its low elevation on the Nile delta makes it highly vulnerable to rising sea levels. It is also Egypt's largest seaport, serving approximately 80% of Egypt's imports and exports. It is an important industrial center because of its natural gas and oil pipelines from Suez.

The St. Charles County Police Department in Missouri said it responded to a medical emergency at a home and the legendary Chuck Berry was declared dead after lifesaving measures were unsuccessful. They confirmed his death on their Facebook page. Chuck Berry, directly influenced the early music of The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The Beach Boys and The Kinks with amazing guitar licks, ultra self-confidence and classic songs about girls, cars and wild dance parties! He defined early rock ’n’ roll’s attitude and musical energy. He was 90 at his death.

Unforgettable jams like, “Johnny B. Goode,” “Roll Over Beethoven,” “Sweet Little Sixteen,” “Maybellene,” “School Days,” “Rock and Roll Music,” “Back in the U.S.A.” and “Memphis, Tennessee,”are with us all forever, and he himself will live on through his music.

Among his many other accolades, he received a lifetime achievement Grammy in 1984 and was among the first inductees to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1986. Berry was also recognized at the Kennedy Center Honors in 2000 and was presented with Sweden’s prestigious Polar Music Prize in 2014.

Speaking with ABC News a few years ago, Berry was asked to name the favorite songs he’s written, but he said he couldn’t choose one.

“Every one of them is tops with me,” he said. “Every one of my children the same way.”

These photographs from Eva Braun's personal picture albums reveal new dimensions of the woman who was Adolf Hitler's longtime girlfriend and, in their last, frantic hours together, his wife. Braun became the central woman in Hitler's life after the 1931 suicide of Geli Raubal, the future Führer's 23-year-old niece (and rumored lover).

By all accounts, Eva was an unpretentious companion for the Nazi leader, but also a woman at once frivolous and vain -- unsurprising characteristics, perhaps, in a former teenage model, but striking in a figure long associated with the darkest chapters of the 20th century.

Showing Eva Braun relaxing with friends at home and posing glamorously in a swimsuit while on vacation, this collection of rare and previously unseen photos comes from a cache of images confiscated by the U.S. Army in 1945 and brought to light by collector and curator Reinhard Schulz exclusively for LIFE.

Eva and her sister Ilse in a childhood photo, 1913. In later life, Ilse worked for -- and had a relationship with -- a Jewish surgeon, Dr. Martin Levy Marx, until he emigrated to the United States in 1938.

30 Fascinating Color Photographs That Capture Everyday Life of Tashkent, Uzbekistan in 1956

In 1956 Jacques Dupâquier flew on to Tashkent, the center of the Uzbek autonomous republic. There he enjoyed the freedom and taking photos of the capital.

“We traveled on an old plane which did not fly higher than 3,200 meters, and so we could watch for hours Soviet Central Asia. I made a couple of pictures through the window. At one moment we flew over a forced labor camp. The stewardess came out of the cabin, and warned us that taking photographs is prohibited here. Then she went back to the cabin, so I urgently took some photos. The official interpreter sitting next to us said nothing."

These images show the shrinking outlines of the Aral Sea, the last remnants of old Tashkent and the traditional costume of their residents, the bazaar which shrank just like the sea and where Dupâquier took most of his photos. His pictures do not surpass the average tourist standard either here. But their value is in the fact that all this would disappear within ten years, following the rebuilding of the city into a sea of socialist housing estates and – as Dupâquier already noticed and emphasized it – the strong influx of Russian inhabitants and culture accompanying it.
