Jean d’Ylen (1886–1938), born Jean Paul Béguin in Paris, was a leading French poster artist celebrated for his bold, colorful, and highly imaginative designs. After studying at the Bernard Palissy School of Fine Arts, he turned to poster art in the years following World War I and joined the renowned Vercasson printing house, where he succeeded Leonetto Cappiello as a principal artist.
Over the course of his career, d’Ylen created more than 200 posters, advertising everything from wines, spirits, and paints to tires and cigarettes. His work is distinguished by vivid colors, dynamic compositions, and whimsical, larger-than-life characters that instantly captured attention.
Though his career was cut short by his early death in 1938, d’Ylen remains one of the most inventive and vibrant poster artists of the interwar period. These colorful posters showcase the bold imagination and radiant energy of Jean d’Ylen, a true master of the vibrant French poster.
