Marlee Matlin’s breakout performance on the set of Children of a Lesser God (1986) forever altered the landscape of Hollywood representation. At just 21 years old, Matlin made her feature film debut as Sarah Norman, a fiercely independent, non-verbal Deaf custodian at a New England school for the Deaf.
