In 1977, Michael and La Toya Jackson shared a Manhattan apartment while Michael was in New York City filming the movie musical The Wiz, in which he played the Scarecrow. These rare candid photos, captured by photographer Araldo di Crollalanza, offer a glimpse into their daily lives during this pivotal year, showing them relaxing in their living area, sharing meals at a glass dining table, and spending time in their kitchen.
Michael moved to NYC in July 1977 to rehearse and film his first movie, alongside Diana Ross. This project led to his first collaboration with producer Quincy Jones, who arranged the film’s score. The siblings became regulars at the legendary nightclub Studio 54. Michael famously celebrated his 19th birthday there in August 1977 with La Toya and their sister Janet. Beyond clubbing, they attended high-profile events together, such as a party hosted by Woody Allen in August and a press conference for The Wiz in September.
Author Truman Capote once described Michael and La Toya as “oases of innocence” amidst the hedonistic culture of New York’s nightlife during that era.

ReplyDeleteWith the success of memorial "Michael show cast movie" (2026) sadly MJJ no longer with us! Michael wasn't about diversity of his popularity once stated wasn't actor? Wiz disputed was misusage of selected cast: basically L Frank Baum ideology story set rural mid west. Historically reverted conservative appeal of suppose adaption of color! Wiz (1978) could have been a success if released during late 80's without Diana as lead actress! Why? Audience would popularity of musically which renowned abroad due. International productions Michael was inclined to stop musical career which felt acting would curtail his dedication to music. Anyhow critics perplexed how did Wiz fail at box office many factors different social adaptions. Since L. Frank Baum reverted to so called American audience not abroad EU and U.K felt stories were repugnant. Former reverted ovie Wizard of Oz (1939) wasn't successful due depiction of horror and humor! MGM only gotten there revenue during " T.V" rights international distribution. Mention non White

To so sequel to MGM so called classic story line wasn't bemusing. Wiz should adapted for television which later during Wiz Live NBC (2019). Michael and LaToya there appearance features were altered especially the noses! Still bought memories of Michael basically struggle growing from "Teen" adult performer. Wiz (1978) was victim of segregated "media" objection still marketing could made film larger.

LaToya had small part uncredited in Wiz...Michael gotten attention along Diana Ross! During era continue show supposed love interest with Stephanie Mills whom. Wiz musical which Michael and Diana excluded from "NYC" premier opening...why publicity. It didn't conjured the anticipated audience error why didn't they market film EU? Could been higher if Michael could performed the songs on live showcast photos bought memories. LaToya still hiding in shadows of Michale how about promoting your career if considering it? During era Michael became independent artist no longer father management. When group left Motown sign with Epic records, Michael became of age contested the management agreement. Papa Joe whom still family manager also Michael decided to movie in with Diana Ross. Which Papa Joe retaliated eventually he was assaulted later
