An amazing photo from Jaguar’s Browns Lane Factory – on the production line, the beautiful D-Type, with XK140’s lined up on the side.
Captured in 1956, this striking image offers a rare glimpse into the heart of Jaguar’s operations at Coventry. Prior to the devastating factory fire on February 12, 1957, which destroyed much of the facility and hundreds of cars. The D-Type, a legendary racing icon with its sleek aluminum body, and the elegant XK140s showcase the pinnacle of 1950s British craftsmanship and engineering.
The D-Type’s dominance at Le Mans—winning in 1955, 1956, and 1957—cemented Jaguar’s reputation in motorsport. After its racing era ended, leftover D-Type chassis were converted into Jaguar XKSS road cars, one of which was famously owned by Steve McQueen.
