25 Gorgeous Photos of a Young Monica Bellucci in the 1980s

Monica Bellucci is an Italian actress and model who began her career as a fashion model before working in Italian, American, and French films. She has an eclectic filmography in a range of genres and languages, and her accolades include the David di Donatello, Globo d’oro, Nastro d’Argento and nominations at Saturn Awards and César Awards. In 2018, Forbes Italy included her in their list of the 100 most successful Italian women.

Born on September 30, 1964 in Città di Castello, Umbria, Italy, Monica spent most of her youth in a quiet, provincial environment. In the early 1980s, she enrolled at the University of Perugia to study law. At first, her ambition was to become a lawyer.

To help finance her studies, she began modeling in her late teens. By 1983, she was already posing for local photographers, and her striking features quickly drew attention. She moved to Milan in the mid-1980s, signing with Elite Model Management, one of the most prestigious agencies.

Through the late 1980s, Bellucci appeared in Italian fashion magazines and worked with designers who valued her classic Mediterranean beauty—dark hair, almond-shaped eyes, and statuesque figure. She wasn’t yet an international name, but within Italian and European fashion circles, she was seen as a rising talent.

Acting wasn’t yet her focus in the 1980s, though she started nurturing the idea. Her big shift to film would only come in the early 1990s when she appeared in La Riffa (1991) and later Francis Ford Coppola’s Bram Stoker’s Dracula (1992).
