Louise Allbritton: A Glamorous Star of the 1940s

Louise Allbritton was an American actress best known for her work in film during the 1940s. Born 1920 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, she studied drama at the University of Southern California before launching a career in Hollywood. Signed by Universal Pictures in the early 1940s, she quickly became a familiar face in wartime films and mystery thrillers.

Allbritton’s most recognized role came in the 1943 cult horror classic Son of Dracula, where she starred opposite Lon Chaney Jr. as Katherine Caldwell, a mysterious woman fascinated by the occult. Her poised elegance and commanding screen presence helped her stand out among Universal’s stable of contract stars.

Throughout her relatively brief career, Allbritton appeared in a range of films, including Pittsburgh (1942), The Egg and I (1947), and Walk a Crooked Mile (1948). While she never reached the top tier of stardom, she was a respected and striking actress whose performances were consistently praised for their strength and sophistication.

Allbritton passed away in 1979, in Puerta Vallarta, Mexico, leaving behind a legacy as one of Universal’s memorable screen sirens of the Golden Age. Take a look at these vintage photos to see the beauty of a young Louise Allbritton in the 1940s.
