Born 1934, beautiful actress and singer from Pennsylvania Shirley Jones began her career with the help of Rodgers and Hammerstein, who cast her in Oklahoma! after a successful audition. She became known for her roles in classic musicals such as Carousel (1956) and The Music Man (1962). In 1960, she won an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her dramatic role in Elmer Gantry.
Jones gained further fame in the 1970s as Shirley Partridge, the musical mother on the popular TV sitcom The Partridge Family. The show not only highlighted her acting skills but also her musical talents, becoming a cultural phenomenon. She was married to actor Jack Cassidy and is the mother of Shaun Cassidy and stepmother to David Cassidy, both of whom had successful careers in entertainment.
