Pam Grier as a Beauty Pageant Winner in the 1960s

In the 1960s, Pam Grier, before her iconic roles in blaxploitation films, participated in beauty pageants to help fund her film school tuition at Metropolitan State College. She was discovered by a Hollywood agent while doing so, launching her career in film.

Grier was the runner-up in the 1967 Miss Colorado Universe contest. Grier is recognized as cinema’s first female action star, notably for her roles in 1970s blaxploitation films like Black Mama White Mama, Coffy and Foxy Brown.

She overcame racism and violence to become a prominent figure in action films. Grier's career spans over 30 years, including roles in television and film. She is considered an icon and a "gun-toting goddess" for her on-screen presence and roles that challenged gender norms.
