FU Rockstar Portraits Taken by Neil Zlozower

L.A. based photographer, Neil Zlozower, has spent more than 40 years of capturing rising music stars from behind the camera. Making a name for himself photographing he likes of Mötley Crüe, Ratt and Van Halen before and after they made their way to the top of the charts, but Neil has also captured many of the legends of 1960s and ’70s classic rock from Led Zeppelin, Kiss, Santana and the Rolling Stones amongst others.

Revered as “one of the band” by the numerous rock stars he has captured, these portraits of his subjects such as Slash and Eddie Van Halen each show them “flipping the bird” in their own unique and colorful way to Zlozower, often nicknamed Zloz. Not only has his ardent lens immortalized their wild and “larger than life” personas and the era during which they were taken but Zloz’s photos also give some insight into his intimate friendships with rock music’s behemoths.

These amazing photographs were published on his book, FY: Rock and Roll Portraits, in 2008. “The beauty of the book is that it starts off in 1975 with Steven Tyler on stage flipping me the finger in front of about 10,000 people,” Zloz said. “Then there are shots like Joan Jett giving me the finger in front of Grauman’s Chinese Theater and then there is Van Halen with one shot of them on the set for the Hot For Teacher! Then there’s Tommy Lee, he features quite a bit and there’s Slash and then even The Bulletpigs in Japan in front of a Japanese McDonalds. Some pics are live, some are backstage, some in the studio. Some are in the Caribbean with Nikki Sixx and Robin Crosby. So there’s a little of everything...”
