Before becoming a Hollywood movie star Kim Basinger was a model in New York with the famous Ford Modeling Agency. In the early 1970s, she landed the job as the Breck Shampoo girl (with her mother, Ann Basinger, also featured in one of the print ads). In 1974, she quit modeling and moved to Los Angeles to pursue an acting career. She transitioned from one industry to the other with the help of Playboy magazine.
Basinger appeared in several television productions, including a remake of From Here to Eternity (1979), before making her feature debut in the rural drama Hard Country (1981). Hailed as a sex symbol of the 1980s and 1990s, Basinger first gained widespread attention for her performance of Domino Petachi in the James Bond entry Never Say Never Again (1983).
Never Say Never Again was released by Warner Bros. on October 7, 1983, and opened to positive reviews. The film grossed $160 million at the box office, making it a commercial success, although it earned less overall than the Eon-produced Octopussy, released earlier the same year.
Here’s a collection of throwback photos of Basinger modeling a tiger-print swimsuit in a photoshoot for Never Say Never Again:
