Carole Lombard (October 6, 1908 – January 16, 1942), one of Hollywood’s most iconic actresses, began her career in the 1920s as a silent film star before rising to greater fame in the 1930s with the transition to “talkies.” In the 1920s, Lombard was just starting out, and her screen persona was still being shaped.
Lombard started acting in films around 1921 when she was just 12 years old. Her early career mostly consisted of small, uncredited roles. She gradually gained more recognition throughout the decade. One of her first credited roles was in the 1925 film Marriage in Transit. She also appeared in films like Hearts and Spurs (1925) and Durand of the Bad Lands (1925).
Lombard signed with Fox Film Corporation at a young age, though a serious car accident in 1926 left her with facial scars and temporarily derailed her career. After surgery, she returned to films and continued to rise as an actress.
