In the 1920s, life in South Africa was marked by economic hardship, racial segregation, and rising Afrikaner nationalism. White South Africans enjoyed relative prosperity, while Black South Africans faced significant social and economic disadvantages, with limited opportunities and restrictive laws.
Urban areas saw growth, with increased industrial activity, but there was widespread racial discrimination and social inequality. Rural areas struggled with economic instability, and there were growing tensions over labor rights and political representation.
