Founded in West Homestead, Pennsylvania in 1898, the Mesta Machine Company became one of the world’s leading machine tool and steel mill equipment manufacturers. Mesta also turned out some of the largest compound engines in the country. In the early 1900s the company boasted that the carrying capacity of the three railroads with spurs to its plant outside Pittsburgh was the only limit to the size of the machine parts it could produce.
