Members of the Los Angeles Police Department’s robbery squad are shown dressed as women as part of an operation to catch a purse snatcher who murdered an elderly woman while she was on her way to church. Photograph dated October 15, 1960.
It’s interesting to see how the costume (for most, a dress, overcoat and headscarf) might subconsciously affect the way the officers present themselves. Most in the back row have their hands pressed together demurely, with a faint smile and eyes slightly downcast.
But a few in front are squatting with either one knee up or knees spread wide apart. Somebody should have given them lessons re how to hold a handbag, and pose with their knees pressed together.
