30 Amazing Photos of Ke Huy Quan on the Set of “Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom” (1984)

Ke Huy Quan (born August 20, 1971), also known as Jonathan Ke Quan, played the character Short Round in the 1984 film Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom. This role marked his debut in acting at the age of 12. Short Round is a spunky, resourceful, and brave young boy who becomes Indiana Jones’ sidekick throughout the adventure.

Originally, Ke Huy Quan’s younger brother went to audition for the role while Quan tagged along. The producers had noticed that Quan was giving his brother directions behind the camera during the audition, so the casting director had asked Quan to give it a shot, and was cast a few days later.

The character quickly became a fan favorite due to his loyalty, quick thinking, and chemistry with Harrison Ford’s Indiana Jones. Ke Huy Quan’s performance was praised for adding both comic relief and emotional depth to the film. This role catapulted him into the spotlight, leading to further roles in the 1980s, most notably in The Goonies.
