In the 1920s, boys typically wore short trousers (often called “knickerbockers” or “knickers”) that buckled just below the knee, worn with long socks. They usually paired these with collared shirts, often with ties or bow ties, and woolen sweaters or vests.
Formal wear included suits with short trousers and blazers. Sailor suits were popular for younger boys, and suspenders or braces were common for holding up trousers. Caps, such as newsboy caps or flat caps, were common headwear.
In colder weather, boys wore woolen coats and long stockings. Footwear was usually leather lace-up shoes. They sometimes wore leather belts instead of suspenders and often had handkerchiefs as accessories.
