Victorian men’s haircuts were generally short and neatly styled. Hair was often parted on the side or in the middle. Sideburns were a prominent feature, ranging from modest to the more dramatic mutton chops. Hair was typically kept smooth and controlled using pomade or oils.
In addition to short, neat haircuts with side partings and prominent sideburns, Victorian men sometimes sported beards and mustaches. The styles varied from clean-shaven faces with just sideburns to full beards. As the Victorian era progressed, facial hair became more elaborate and stylized.
