Amazing Photos of the 1947 Norman Timbs Special

The Norman Timbs Special, constructed by renowned Indy 500 engineer Norman Timbs in Los Angeles, is a unique automobile. It’s estimated that he built the car at a cost of $10,000, a significant sum for its time.

Every aspect of the car’s dimensions is remarkable. Standing at a mere 47 inches tall with a wheelbase of 117 inches, its length stretches to about 17 feet. Weighing around 2,200 pounds, the car is encased in an aluminum skin atop a tube frame chassis.

Powered by a mid-engine Buick straight-eight engine with dual carburetors, the Timbs Special utilized heavily modified 1947 Ford suspension components for its comfortable ride. It reportedly reached speeds of up to 120mph.

Yet, this car was designed to stand out with its unique style and functionality. The tail section opens dramatically behind the cockpit, revealing the gas tank, spare tire, engine, and other mechanical components.

Here below is a set of amazing photos of the 1947 Norman Timbs Special.
