Doorless German Car Features Tip-Up Top, 1954

Doffing its top to allow its owner to enter or leave, an automobile built by German mechanic Gustav Weinert was the last word in simple design in 1954.

Absence of doors and similar items makes for light weight (770 pounds), and low gasoline consumption. Product of a year’s work, the eight-foot car is powered by a rear-mounted motorcycle engine and runs on motor-scooter wheels. The top is lifted manually by handles at the rear or by a foot lever under the dash.
