R.I.P Tina Turner! Here Are 30 of the Best Photos of the Queen of Rock ‘n’ Roll on the Stage

Tina Turner, the unstoppable singer and stage performer who teamed with husband Ike Turner for a dynamic run of hit records and live shows in the 1960s and 1970s and survived her horrifying marriage to triumph in middle age with the chart-topping “What’s Love Got to Do With It,” has died at 83. Her death was confirmed by her spokesperson, Bernard Doherty, on Wednesday afternoon.

“Tina Turner, the Queen of Rock ‘n’ Roll has died peacefully today at the age of 83 after a long illness in her home in Küsnacht near Zurich, Switzerland,” said Doherty in a news release. “With her, the world loses a music legend and a role model.” He said Turner will be honored at a private funeral ceremony.

A photo was shared on Turner's Instagram announcing her death: “Verified It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Tina Turner. With her music and her boundless passion for life, she enchanted millions of fans around the world and inspired the stars of tomorrow. Today we say goodbye to a dear friend who leaves us all her greatest work: her music. All our heartfelt compassion goes out to her family. Tina, we will miss you dearly.”

Turner was born Anna Mae Bullock in Nutbush, Tennessee, in 1939 and rose to fame in 1960 with her performance of Ike Turner’s “A Fool in Love”. Known as the “Queen of Rock ‘n’ Roll”, she rose to prominence as the lead singer of the Ike & Tina Turner Revue before launching a successful career as a solo performer.
