John Francis Bongiovi Jr., professionally known as Jon Bon Jovi, is an American actor, songwriter, and producer. His parents, both former Marines, welcomed him into the world on March 2, 1962, in Perth Amboy, New Jersey.
Bon Jovi is of Italian, Slovak, German, and Russian descent and was raised as a Catholic. With his first band Raze, he started playing the keyboard and guitar at 13. In his teenage years, he started two other bands, John Bongiovi and the Wild Ones, and The Rest. Bon Jovi and his pal David Bryan contacted Alec John Such, Tico Torres, and Richie Sambora to form the band Bon Jovi in March 1983. Their first single, “Runway,” which later reached the top 40, was released the following year.
