In 1992, Kurt Cobain was frequently photographed wearing a T-shirt featuring the cover image of Johnston’s album Hi, How Are You that music journalist Everett True had given to him. This simple act showed both the reverence and respect that the lo-fi king Daniel Johnston had gained.
Famously, in 1993, Cobain listed Johnston’s fifth album Yip/Jump Music as one of his favorite albums in his journal.
Hi, How Are You is the 6th album released by singer/songwriter Daniel Johnston. Whilst Johnston never gained any major success, this album is his best known following the front cover of the album being worn on a t-shirt by Nirvana’s frontman Kurt Cobain. Johnston was in the midst of a nervous breakdown when writing this album, he claims, which is why he called it The Unfinished Album.
