Rare Photos of Audrey Hepburn’s Vietnam Visit in 1990

You might think of her as a legendary actress and fashion icon, but to Audrey Hepburn, the most important role of her life (besides devoted mother) was Goodwill Ambassador to UNICEF. From 1989 to her death in 1993, Hepburn devoted her life to caring for the suffering children of destitute countries such as Vietnam and Ethiopia.

Audrey Hepburn’s visit to Vietnam in October/November of 1990 contributed to drawing world attention to the needs of children in this aid- starved country. UNICEF cooperation in Vietnam focuses on increasing primary health care outreach including immunization, growth monitoring and maternal care; the construction of handpumps and latrines to extend safe water and sanitation availability; and support for daycare centers and universal primary education including the training of teachers and supplies provision. UNICEF also directs special attention to the country’s isolated minorities.Viet Nam.

In hill-tribe village clinics, in schools and kindergartens, wherever the star of the silver-screen went, Audrey charmed everyone including Deputy Prime Minister, General Vo Nguyen Giap who played an important role in the defeat of the Americans during the Vietnam War.
