They formed a band called “Dino, Desi and Billy” and became famous in their own right and had a hit song in the 1960s. Frank Sinatra signed them to his label.

At one of their California concerts near LA Desi really got into the music, the crowd, and the whole atmosphere of the gig. He yelled out between songs something like "Tell us what you want us to play! Name the song and we'll play it!" The other two weren't amused by this stage patter and pulled the reigns back on Desi. They knew the limits of their band better than Desi, it seems.
