Vintage Photographs of People Donning Fancy Costumes at Synwell Carnival in Wotton-under-Edge in the Late 1960s

These photographs of floats at the Synwell Carnival were taken by Brian Candy in 1954.

The historic carnival, once the event of the year in Synwell, saw a procession of floats featuring residents in fancy dress tour around Wotton-under-Edge, a market town within the Stroud district of Gloucestershire, England. The event, however, petered out in the mid-seventies after insurance for the floats rocketed and residents could not raise the cash to carry on. It was briefly resurrected in the mid-nineties.
