35 Vintage Photos That Defined ’50s Menswear

Following the Second World War, the world experienced rapid changes in many facets of life, including menswear.

When you think of the 1950s, you probably think of good times – rock and roll. Sport coats, skinny ties, Letterman jackets, bowling shirts, saddle shoes, and chunky glasses defined the 1950s guy’s wardrobe. Classy men like Frank Sinatra kept the fedora hat and black and white shoes alive a little longer. Meanwhile, musician Elvis introduced trendy new suede footwear and actor James Dean made the classic white T-shirt and leather jacket a must for any greaser.

The 1950s were certainly cheerier than the 1940s. It was the age of increasing comfort and convenience. The ’50s also saw the birth of the teenager and the rebellious youth, and the different fashions and styles that came along with it.

Take a look at these vintage photos to see what men looked like in the 1950s.
