20 Cool Photos of Brides in Long and Big Wedding Dresses From the 1930s and Early ’40s

While depression-era wedding dresses of the 1930s were simpler, their ladylike classy cuts were exuded pure elegance. Partly inspired by rising Hollywood glamor, the dresses featured a slightly dropped waist and tighter fit, high necklines, and long sleeves.

In the 1930s, most brides were wearing silk or satin dresses, typically opting for long-sleeve styles with a small train and minimal ornamental designs, like appliqué or embroidery. The bouquet was also important to one’s wedding day look. In the 1930s, shower bouquets, a.k.a. long flowing arrangements, were hugely popular.

Bridal fashion that was popular in the 1930s didn’t change all that much in the 1940s, with many brides wearing the same kind of slim-fit dresses with high necklines and long sleeves.

These cool photos from profkaren that captured beautiful portraits of brides at the Detroit/Hamtramck studio wearing long and big wedding dresses from the 1930s and early 1940s.
