Argentine Classic Beauty: Gorgeous Photos of Linda Cristal in the 1950s and ’60s

Born 1931 as Marta Victoria Moya Peggo Burges in Rosario, Santa Fe, Argentine actress Linda Cristal appeared in films in Argentina and Mexico before taking on her first English-language role as Margarita in the 1956 Western film Comanche.

Following her Golden Globe Award for New Star of the Year in The Perfect Furlough (1958), Cristal went on to roles in Cry Tough (1959), Legions of the Nile (1959), The Pharaohs’ Woman (1960), and was asked by John Wayne to play the part of Flaca in his epic The Alamo (1960). In 1961 she had a key role in the western Two Rode Together.

Cristal semi-retired in 1964 to raise her two children. She was coaxed out of retirement when she became the last cast member to be added as a regular on the NBC series The High Chaparral (1967-1971). Her performance in the series, as Victoria Cannon, earned her two more Golden Globe nominations (winning Best Actress - Television Drama in 1968) and two Emmy Award nominations.

Cristal worked sparingly after The High Chaparral, with a few television and film roles, such as the film Mr. Majestyk (1974) and the television miniseries Condominium (1980). She last appeared in the starring role of Victoria “Rossé” Wilson on the Argentine television series Rossé (1985).

Cristal died at her home in Beverly Hills, California in 2020 at the age of 89. Take a look at these gorgeous photos to see the beauty of young Linda Cristal in the 1950s and 1960s.

  1. Wow! What an attractive woman for her time and even by today's standards as well. I recently started watching old reruns of "The High Chaparral", I'd never seen them before. I can't believe she turned 40yo while that show was on, I would've thought her to be in her 30's. She gave an excellent performance as Victoria Cannon. I think she gave her character more life and played her with more enthusiasm than the rest of the cast did their's. She definitely stood out. Years later she was a guest star on an episode of "Barnaby Jones" and did a wonderful job there as well.
"Rest in peace, Ms. Cristal. Thank you for entertaining us, not only for the past 50+ years, but for many more to come through reruns."

people he ever knew. He said his Dad thought she was very kind hearted and great
to be around. Bill spent a lot of time around the cast.
