Gorgeous Photos of Ava Gardner in the Early 1950s by Virgil Apger

Born 1903, American photographer Virgil Apger was brother-in-law of studio photographer Eugene Richee, who gave Apger his first job, as his assistant in 1929.


Virgil Apger’s creative work was primarily inspired by the 1920s. The key innovations formed in the early years of the 20th century were developed further in the 1920s and 1930s.

Apger went to work as a studio photographer for MGM in 1931, and retired from MGM in 1969. He died in 1994 at the age of 91.

These gorgeous photos are part of his work that Virgil Apger took portraits of Ava Gardner in the early 1950s.
