Born 1907 in North Carolina, American cinematographer Scotty Welbourne was known in Hollywood circles as “the best looking guy out of pictures”. He had spurned repeated offers to star in front of the cameras, preferring instead to be the man behind them.
At one time or other, Scotty photographed practically everyone who was anyone in 1930s tinseltown, not to mention such luminaries as former U.S. president Calvin Coolidge. In the mid-1950s, he switched from still photography to cinematography and was subsequently employed as director of photography on several television series, most notably Dennis the Menace.
Scotty died in 1979 at the age of 72.
These glamorous photos are part of his work that Scotty Welbourne took portraits of American actress and singer Ann Sheridan in the 1930s and 1940s.
