40 Lovely Photos of Halloween Costumes For Kids in the 1960s

Halloween is a holiday celebrated each year on October 31. The tradition originated with the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain, when people would light bonfires and wear costumes to ward off ghosts.

In the eighth century, Pope Gregory III designated November 1 as a time to honor all saints. Soon, All Saints Day incorporated some of the traditions of Samhain. The evening before was known as All Hallows Eve, and later Halloween.

Over time, Halloween evolved into a day of activities like trick-or-treating, carving jack-o-lanterns, festive gatherings, donning costumes and eating treats.

Here below is a set of lovely photos that shows what Halloween costumes for kids looked like in the 1960s.

  1. The Star Wars photo is from the early 1980s. I can't believe there's no Batman, Lone Ranger, Superman, Green Hornet, Spiderman, or Beatles costumes representing the 1960s. Most prominently featured in the stores of the era were cartoon characters, superheros, monsters, and television actors. Few are depicted in this collection of mostly home made costumes.
