Spanish Classic Beauty: 50 Glamorous Photos of Carmen Sevilla in the Late 1940s and ’50s

Born 1930 as María del Carmen García Galisteo in Seville, Spanish actress, singer and television presenter Carmen Sevilla made her film début in 1948 in Jalisco Sings in Seville. Her rise to fame came with her starring role in The Troublemaker with Tony Leblanc. She also played Mary Magdalene in Nicholas Ray's King of Kings.


In 1972, Sevilla played Octavia in the English-language film Antony and Cleopatra. She also appeared in La Cera Virgen (1972), Nadie oyó gritar (1973), and Beatriz (1976). Her film roles include Academy Award nominee Vengeance, Searching for Monica (1962) and the 1956 French film Don Juan.

In January 2004, Sevilla received the 2003 Medal of Honour bestowed by the Círculo de Escritores Cinematográficos.

In 2012, Sevilla was announced to be in a “very advanced stage” of Alzheimer’s disease. In 2015, it was reported that she no longer recognized her home.
