Curls, Mullets, Wigs, and Great Lengths: Here Are 10 Cher's Most Iconic Hair Moments From Between the Mid-1960s and '80s

A highly versatile artist, Cher is an American singer and actress who got her start as half of Sonny and Cher in the 1960s. She has since amassed international fame with an array of Top 10 hits and screen roles, winning an Oscar for her role in 'Moonstruck.'

From mullets to extravagant headpieces, there isn't a 'do the singer-turned-actress hasn't tried. Cher was deemed as a fashion innovator, a role she has continued with, for better or worse, throughout her career...

1. Long Layers With Bangs, 1965

Even at 19, Cher (here with then-husband Sonny Bono) already had a signature look. Although long straight hair with a full bang was really popular in the '60s, she knew how to make it her own.

2. Waist-Length Ponytail, 1972

To offset how much skin she bared in this slinky patterned gown, the singer rocked a massive ponytail — and oversize hoop earrings — in this professional portrait.

3. Big and Curly, 1972

A super-long ponytail wasn't the only over-the-top look Cher chose in 1972. For a concert, she wore her hair teased into really big curls.

4. Feathered Headpiece, 1972

Cher's obsession with giant headpieces started early. Case in point: This huge fuchsia and purple one she wore in a promotional portrait for The Sonny and Cher Comedy Hour.

5. Bob With Bangs, 1975

We're not sure if it's a wig or not, but this cropped bob is absolutely adorable. It especially pairs well with the singer's high-neck red sequin dress.

6. Long Braids, 1977

While visiting the The Stanley Siegel Show, Cher showed off her long braids under a cute newsboy cap.

7. Frosted Pixie, 1984

You weren't on trend in the '80s unless you experimented with a little frosting. But Cher took it one step further and chopped her mane into an edgy short haircut with pale blonde spikes at the top.

8. Rocker Mullet, 1985

Leave it up to Cher to take the most regrettable haircut of the '80s — the mullet — up a notch. Seriously, the volume is gravity-defying.

9. Spiked Headpiece, 1986

Who could ever forget this show-stopping outfit and headpiece from the 1986 Academy Awards? Because of this look, Cher still remains on the list for most memorable red carpet outfits ever.

10. Cleopatra Headdress, 1988

For fashion designer (and good friend) Bob Mackie's 1988 Halloween party, Cher went all out by wearing a glitzy and elaborate Cleopatra-style hairpiece and wig.
