1960s Interior Décor: The Decade of Psychedelia Gave Rise to Inventive and Bold Interior Design

From Pop art to Op art, plastic furniture to bubble-gum paint colors, the Sixties saw a new wave of interior design that was closely linked to popular culture and fashion, becoming increasingly youth-oriented and playful to appeal to the new generation of baby-boomers.

With lava lamps, blow-up furniture and psychedelic prints, the cultural revolution of the 1960s made as much of an impact on the home as it did on music and fashion. The avant-garde treated their houses as blank canvases and created interiors that were as individual as they were.
