By 1978, fashion photographer Michael McDonnell was tired of shooting regular models. It was around that time he spotted a 20-year-old girl sitting on a stool in the hallway of his building. She was dressed in black, with ripped jeans and frizzy hair. McDonnell was mesmerised.
He told her he wanted to take her picture. Madonna agreed, and the two worked together on shoots over the next eight months.
A few months after they started to work together, Madonna cut her hair short and dyed it black.
Madonna looks beautiful in these photographs, it really goes without saying that Madonna had a different type of beauty then.
