They played characters you could relate to or fell in love with and sang songs you swore were about you. And they were drop-dead gorgeous, of course.

Raquel Welch got our attention in 1966 when she starred in Fantastic Voyage, but it was that doe-skin bikini in One Million Years B.C. that cemented herself as one of America’s most beloved sex symbols.

Marianne Faithfull was the kind of girl you could take home to mom and dad. Except for the drugs. And Mick Jagger. Mom and dad hated Jagger.

Twiggy made androgyny sexy, crushing the standards we previously had for beauty. Paul McCartney also wrote two songs for her (“Back in the U.S.S.R.” and “Gotta Sing, Gotta Dance”), intended for projects that never happened.

Birkin’s provocative role in Blow-Up helped her become a cultural icon during the 1960s. Birkin put it all out there for everyone to see posing for erotic magazines and baring all on-screen.
6. Tina Turner
Let’s be honest: it may have been Ike and Tina, but it was all Tina. Turner empowered herself with an attitude and voice that we couldn’t help but fall in love with.
7. Ursula Andress
Andress, Ursula Andress. The first, and possibly greatest, Bond girl. Andress walking out of the Caribbean Sea in a white bikini with a large knife on her hip will forever be burned into our memory.
8. Tina Louise
Louise starred as the the movie star, Ginger Grant on Gilligan’s Island and sparked one of the greatest debates of all time.
9. Dawn Wells
The other half of the great Gilligan’s Island debate, Wells played Mary Ann, the farm girl next door.
10. Diana Rigg
Diana Rigg was a beautiful bad ass. She played Emma Peel, a spy on The Avengers who was a certified genius and martial arts expert.
11. Barbara Eden
Who knew a 2,000-year-old genie could look so good. Eden starred as the title character on I Dream of Jeannie and made us all wish for a night home in front of the TV on Saturday night.
12. Elizabeth Montgomery
What’s the deal with women who possess some form of mystical powers? Montogomery starred as Samantha Stephens on Bewitched and had us all hoping for a spell that could position us as the only Darrin in her life.
13. Natalie Wood
Before she was 25, Wood had already received three Academy Award nominations, two of them for Splendor in the Grass (1961) and Love with the Proper Stranger (1963).
14. Honor Blackman
If anyone can challenge Andress as the greatest Bond girl of all time, it’s Blackman, playing Pussy Galore in Goldfinger.
15. Ann-Margret
Before IKEA made it’s way to our shores with absurd shopping rules and meatballs, their finest export was Ann-Margret. The 1960s were good to her (and us!), with starring roles in Bye Bye Birdie (1963), Viva Las Vegas (1964), and The Cincinnati Kid (1965).
In a career that’s spanned more than 50 years, she has won five Golden Globe Awards while being nominated for two Academy Awards, two Grammy Awards, a Screen Actors Guild Award, and SIX Emmy Awards.

Known as “The Black Venus,” Falana’s popularity soared thanks to her roles in spaghetti Westerns. She also posed for Playboy.

Thomas was THAT GIRL. Literally and figuratively: she starred as Ann Marie on the show That Girl from 1966-1970, a character whose scatter-brain personality led her to some compromising positions. And Thomas looked great the entire time.

The best part of The Beverly Hillbillies was Elly Mae, the Tomboy you played in the dirt with as a kid and eventually fell in love with when you got older.
