Victorian Lady Roller-Skaters, ca. 1890s

Back in the Victorian era rinks were made with hard marble and were in nearly every town and city. Skating was only twenty-five cents so most classes could participate. One could participate in races, fancy skating, or dancing on skates...

Special dresses were made to free up movement for women. In spite of this huge popularity, roller-skating slowly decreased. But it did lead to freedom of dress and behavior for women.
