Harold Feinstein was born in Coney Island in 1931. He began his career in photography in 1946 at the age of 15 and within four short years, Edward Steichen, an early supporter, had purchased his work for the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA).
In his early career, Feinstein was best known for his black and white documentary style work, and particularly his extensive Coney Island portfolio, which has been shown often throughout his life in galleries, museums and journals.
