37 Rarely Seen Behind-the-Scenes Photos From the Making of Classic Film 'Gone With the Wind' (1939)

Here's a collection of 37 rarely seen photos taken behind-the-scenes during production of David O. Selznick's Gone With the Wind (1939), starring Clark Gable and Vivien Leigh and directed by Victor Fleming and George Cukor.

Filming for the "Burning of Atlanta" scene was completed in a little more than one hour. Once the embers cooled, Production Manager Raymond Klune and his team would begin building the sets for Tara, Twelve Oaks, and downtown Atlanta.

  1. I was quickly flashing through these when I went, "Cake dress?!", scrolled back to it and was reminded I wasn't reading about Firefly.
    Sidenote: I desperately want the gown Leigh is wearing in the doorway.

  2. This was shown in Theaters using the 70mm film on a screen bigger than an NFL end zone when I first saw it. Wow, will you look at the size of those cameras.
