A Candid Shot of a Young Robin Williams as New York Street Performer in 1979

From his roles as the Genie in Disney’s Aladdin to Dr. Sean Maguire in Good Will Hunting, late actor and comedian Robin Williams captured America’s hearts with his brilliant humor and heartwarming character.

Williams originally rose to fame in the sitcom Mork & Mindy which premiered in 1978. Yet in this vintage photograph discovered by Ryan Haught, Williams is shown performing on the New York City streets as a young star in 1979.

In the sepia toned image a then 28-year-old Robin, commands the crowd's attention by gesturing wildly in a sleeveless shirt while another performer - believed to be comedian and clown Marc Weiner - looks on.

Interestingly, while Robin worked hard to earn a few dollars from onlookers, the star had already started his path to success.

At the time the image was taken, the funnyman was already appearing on television screens across America in his hit show Mork And Mindy.

But obviously, the man who played the loveable alien craved the audience's reaction so would fit in street performing around his television schedule.

While Mork and Mindy only made it until 1982, Robin of course went on to feature in over seventy films including Good Morning Vietnam, Good Will Hunting - for which he won and Oscar - and Jumanji.
