Josef Wopfner (1843–1927) was an Austrian painter known for his atmospheric landscapes of the Chiemsee region in Bavaria. Trained in Munich, he became part of the Munich School and specialized in scenes of fishermen, lakes, and rural life.
Wopfner’s popular “Ave Maria” series depicted nuns returning to the Frauenchiemsee cloister. He received several honors, including the Bavarian Michaels Order and a gold medal at the 1890 Crystal Palace Exhibition. His works are celebrated for their natural light and tranquil realism.
Here is a collection of beautiful landscape paintings by Josef Wopfner from the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
