Taken by his legendary official photographer Mick Rock, these images show David Bowie resting in his dressing room during the UK leg of the historic Ziggy Stardust tour. The photographs were taken on May 25, 1973, when Bowie and the Spiders from Mars performed two sold-out shows at the now-lost Bournemouth Winter Gardens.
Mick Rock was given unparalleled backstage access during this era, capturing intimate moments of Bowie transforming into his stage personas, applying his own makeup, and relaxing between high-energy sets. This gig took place during the frantic final months of the Ziggy Stardust / Aladdin Sane era, just weeks before Bowie shockingly announced the retirement of the Ziggy persona at the Hammersmith Odeon in July 1973.
