Lilyan Tashman: Hollywood’s Best-Dressed Icon of the Jazz Age

Lilyan Tashman (1896–1934) was an American actress celebrated for her sophisticated style and sharp supporting roles in silent and early sound films.

Born in Brooklyn, Tashman began in vaudeville and on Broadway before moving to Hollywood in the early 1920s. Known as one of the best-dressed women on screen, she specialized in glamorous, witty characters that perfectly suited the spirit of the Jazz Age. She appeared in numerous films throughout the 1920s and early ’30s and successfully transitioned into the talkie era.

Though her career was cut short by illness at the age of 37, Tashman remains remembered as a distinctive and stylish figure of early Hollywood.
