Lucy Kate Jackson (born October 29, 1948) is an American actress and television producer, known for her television roles as Sabrina Duncan in the series Charlie’s Angels (1976–1979). She is a three-time Emmy Award nominee and four-time Golden Globe Award nominee, and Photoplay award winner for Favorite TV Actress in 1978.
After studying at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts, Jackson began landing small TV roles. Her first notable success came with The Rookies (1972–1976), where she played Nurse Jill Danko. The show gave her steady exposure and built her reputation as a talented, natural actress with a mix of toughness and warmth.
In 1976, she became a household name when she was cast as Sabrina Duncan, the smart, level-headed Angel on Charlie’s Angels. Jackson was considered the most intellectual and grounded of the three Angels (alongside Farrah Fawcett and Jaclyn Smith). Her character was often seen as the “brains” of the trio, and many fans admired her understated elegance and intelligence. Her portrayal helped shape the show’s tone, especially in its early seasons — Jackson even had input in developing the show’s concept and name.
Kate Jackson’s 1970s style reflected confidence and modern sophistication — think smart suits, turtlenecks, blazers, and soft natural hair. She stood out from many contemporaries because she projected a down-to-earth, intellectual, feminist image rather than a purely glamorous one.
After leaving Charlie’s Angels in 1979, Jackson looked for more dramatic and challenging work. She was offered major roles in projects like Kramer vs. Kramer (which she had to turn down due to scheduling conflicts). By the end of the 1970s, she was respected as both a television star and a serious actress with depth beyond the action-and-glamour TV roles.
