On September 30, 1968, Leigh Taylor-Young was having a butterfly painted on her thigh by Andy Warhol during a party at L’Etoile restaurant in New York City—but despite this youthful activity, she insisted that she felt old at 23.
“I’m already straining to keep up with the younger world around me,” said the dignified looking beauty who was pointed out everywhere as ‘the girl in Peyton Place’ although this thigh-painting exercise was promotion for her picture with Peter Sellers, Alice B. Toklas, I Love You.
Dan Lewis wrote for The Record (October 2, 1968):
“Short notes—It was party night Monday. Hawthorn Press had a reception for Joanna Barnes, marking, the, ‘Starting publication From of Scratch,’ about interior decorating. Warner Bros. had a party for Leigh Taylor-Young and her husband Ryan O’Neal, he may have just been tagging along, since the party actually was in conjunction with Leigh’s movie debut in I Love You Alice B. Toklas, and NBC had a party for Johnny Carson in conjunction with the taping of the Kraft Music Hall’s Johnny Carson Friar’s Roast, which will be aired Oct. 23 on Channel 4.
“First things first: At Joanna Barnes’ party, she revealed her next television spot will be a ‘Mannix’ segment, and she flies out to Hollywood later this week. She’ll be doing more ‘What’s My Line?,’ too ... Andy Warhol, pale (I think it’s unnatural), but game, showed up with entourage, including Ultra Violet, at the Leigh Taylor Young party. Ultra volunteered information that movies today fall into three categories—the above ground, the middle, ground, and the underground.”
